Questions are raised from time to time why there are needs for foreign labour in Sweden, why some people need work permit in order to work in Sweden, why it is wise to seek professional help before applying for work permit in Sweden and how we can help out. This article addresses these questions.
Work Permits in Sweden – why(s)?
Why foreign labor?
Some of the fastest growing industries in Sweden are dependent on competencies that are not always available in the country or within the EU. This means that among Swedish companies it has become increasingly common to hire non-European labor.
The underlying reason for this can be easily explained in part by the large retirement of those born in the 40s and 50s, an increased life expectancy of the retired group, as well as failed planning and attractiveness to certain essential educations over the last two decades.
The shortage of skilled labor expands over almost all kinds of industries, of all sizes and across the entire country. The regulations allow the employing company to decide what skills they need to bring to Sweden.
Why is a work permit needed?
To be able to work in Sweden, most people who come from countries outside the EU / EEA must have a valid work permit. The permit must usually be applied for and be granted before traveling into Sweden. However, there are some exceptions to this. For example, foreign students who studied at a university in Sweden and fulfill the requirements and have a job offer may apply from within the country.
Why use professional help?
The process of work permit application in Sweden is time-consuming and troublesome. High demands are placed on the hiring company in the form of requirements for good and stable finances, a tidy background and more. The complexity of cases vary much and there are countless details to consider.
Small mistakes can lead to unnecessary and devastating consequences such as heavy delays or in the worse case, rejection. The regulations have changed many times since they were introduced in 2008 and have progressively become more complicated . An experienced actor knows which parameters to look at and how to prepare the case in the best way.
Why choose us?

We follow closely what happens in the industry and keep up with all regulatory changes. Some of our employees have been working as case officers at the Swedish Migration Agency and are familiar with the mindset of the case management “on the other side of the table”.
We believe that by helping the companies in bringing the right competency to Sweden we help the businesses to grow, become stronger and more competitive. We consider this as our contribution to the welfare of the society.
We at Permizon are specialists in work permits and are happy to help both the employer and the employee with the application process from the start until a decision has been made by the Swedish Migration Agency. We act as your representative and take care of the paperwork and contacts with all parties involved.
Navigating within government and public sector systems and regulations is difficult. Everybody knows this, either from news and stories or from personal experience. Laws and regulations are complicated and hard to understand, and processes are usually slow. There may be good reasons for this. These systems are designed to keep everyone secure, and to ensure that citizens and guests are always treated in a fair and equal way, and as the rules demand.
Nonetheless, it can be a frustrating experience to deal with. As a business, it can become a drain on resources in different ways, as a development obstacle or directly costing time and money.
Our core business
This brings us to the specialised area we work in: Work permits. In most cases where they are needed they are a means to an end, not a goal in themselves. A company needs to expand its workforce or a person wants to pursue a career abroad. Obtaining a permit is a crucial step, but it isn’t, and shouldn’t be, the core concern when staffing up. For us, however, work permits *are* the core concern. Through hard work and focused efforts we have studied, practiced and recruited our way to being really good at it, and we have extensive experience working in good relations with the Swedish Migration Agency. We know how these things work, and you can trust us to get it right … the first time!
We simply offer a shortcut through the process, allowing you to reach your goal faster.
A developing service
Obviously we didn’t start out with an entire team of specialists, or indeed with extensive experience. We have developed our service over time, and have for a long period now become experts at delivering it.
This of course means staying informed on continuously changing regulations, but also being on top of the area in general. We keep an eye on sectors that may encounter specific challenges, or where new needs are developing. We know the specifics of entry from different countries, as well as a wide range of other important knowledge and factors. All in the interest of offering the best possible experience for our customers as they move between countries.
In short: Yes, there are good reasons why these processes may call for a specialist who focuses on *tour* specific situation. When you are in need of one, please do not hesitate to reach out and contact us!
The word “strategy” may sound dusty and boring, like the kind of thing that is only interesting to higher management, or something consultants say to confuse people and sound smart. At its heart, though, it simply means having a plan. As a business, that plan must be one that makes two things clear:
What is the value we bring to our customers?
How do we intend to deliver it?
Since this involves you, as a member of our audience or maybe even a customer already, we would like to share a few key elements of our strategy with you: We exist to enable legally compliant workforce mobility across borders. We intend to do this by filling an important role in providing employers efficient access to international staff, making it easier for all kinds of labour to travel across the global work market.
What it means for you
Let’s break it down, starting with “legally compliant workforce mobility”. The world needs a mobile workforce, and this need is growing. All nations have rules in place when foreigners want to move in to work. There are good reasons for that, but these rules may be difficult even for professionals to deal with and that presents an obstacle to mobility.
If only there were someone who specialized in this, right? Well, Permizon does! We help the process along, speed it up, and make it easier for employers, employees and society. As we increase the reach of our service, we do our bit to enable and normalize the migration of labour across the globe.
The road ahead
Our founder, Mr. Majid Ahmadian, is himself an example of the benefits of workforce mobility between countries. It is part of our business’ DNA that we believe in the benefits of the free movement of skills and workforce to where it is needed. This is why our strategy also contains the ambition to keep growing. We have already helped many employers in Sweden bring in qualified staff from outside the EU. In time, we will expand to the other Scandinavian countries, and then to the rest of the world.
Right now you are viewing the website of the newly launched brand Permizon – we appreciate your visit! This is the story of how the Permizon brand came to be.
Until recently, the services described on this website were all part of the Swedworks brand. Swedworks has existed since 2009, and was – and remains – dedicated to help the Swedish labour market and society include employees from outside the EU. As most people know, if only from the press, the relocation and making of a new professional and personal life in a new country is a complicated process. It can be opaque and difficult, it takes a lot of time, and it requires a significant amount of documents and actions which most people find both complicated and time consuming to deal with.
What Swedworks has done is to offer assistance with these processes, predominantly to employers but also, to a lesser degree, to students and employees. This included work permit applications, language courses and other related relocation services.
What prompted the launch of a new brand?
In the era of mobile work force and globalisation, we enjoyed healthy growth as our services served a need which we were happy to fill. This success, however, led us to the realization that we needed to split out the work permit chapter of Swedworks. Thus we created Permizon.
The decision was made primarily for the benefit of our customers. There is no need for further complication in this area – if an employer needs work permit related services, such services should be easy to find and understand. There are benefits to us too, of course, as we are able to communicate more clearly with a specialized and dedicated business area. All in all, launching the Permizon brand is the first step in a journey to elevate and develop our work permit related services even further!
Going forward
The Permizon crew still works closely with the rest of Swedworks, particularly in the cases where a customer needs the related services still provided by that part of our business group. However, from this point on all activities related to work permits, our fast track processes and certification with the Swedish Migration Agency are all consolidated under the Permizon brand.
We look forward to bringing work permit services to more employers, and contribute to the strengthening of the Swedish business sector and the enrichment of society!
